Peter Jackson from Red e2 had the pleasure of visiting the New Gran Melia in Tanzania in September and shares his views on this exciting opening.

Located in what is often viewed as the gateway to the Serengeti, the city of Arusha, this new Gran Melia is a delight.

Most people travelling to the various luxury lodges in the Serengeti typically either give Arusha a complete miss, or at best use it for the briefest of pit stops. The new 171 bed Gran Melia provides ample reason to linger a little longer. Without doubt the hotel is going to be popular with corporate event planners as it not only has a large free-standing ballroom, a number of different dining options including the shortly to open Spanish/Peruvian fusion roof top restaurant with spectacular views to Mount Meru, the second highest mountain on the African continent. All the bedrooms (which are at least 40m2 ) at the hotel have their own private balcony, 65-inch TVs, free Wi-Fi and air conditioning and delivers a real sense of place with innovative touches to the décor.

I am really looking forward to bringing a group here next March. The ballroom is going to be a fantastic venue for the awards dinner for over 130 people from 17 countries, however what I am really looking forward to is seeing the delight on the faces of guests when they arrive and soak up the fantastic views of Mount Meru whilst sipping a welcome cocktail on the pool deck’.
