The AIEA NY Honours took place on Friday 28th Jan 2022.

It was a huge success and the biggest one to date, with over 80 suppliers and 60 members attending this was a great start to our New Year. It goes without saying that the AIEA could not operate without all its members and supplier friends, and we are so grateful that so many could attend this event to make it such a great success.

This year the event took place at The Belfry in Wishaw, near Sutton Coldfield in Warwickshire; just a few minutes drive from Birmingham International Airport, this is a great location.

The Belfry is an award winning hotel and is one of the UK’s leading meeting, conference and event venues, and we can safely say they showed us why, as we were so well looked after from start to finish. The venue boasts a great variety of event spaces and their largest meeting room can accommodate up to  400 delegates.

There are 319 luxurious bedrooms and suites, two restaurants, a bar and a night club, and for the health conscious there are excellent gym facilities and a fully serviced spa with a swimming pool, whirlpools and bio thermal rooms. And of course there are three world renowned golf courses – home to the Ryder Cup 4 times for all the golf enthusiasts out there.

The Lea Marston Hotel who kindly accommodated some of the members and also hosted the wonderful welcome reception on the night before the event, is situated 7 min drive from the Belfry and 10 min drive from Sutton Coldfield itself. It’s a great 4* conference hotel with newly renovated bedrooms, great conference facilities, a spa, a Brasserie and a pub for informal and relaxed gatherings.

The members’ meeting kicked off on the Friday and it was great to see so many members attending and engaging. There were some great news and updates about the coming year, all on an extremely positive note, hosted by our current Chair Kerry Walsh and Vice Chair Chris Walls, with input from all of the board.

We also got a chance to hear from Jackson Wray, the Saracens Rugby Union player. From an Academy player graduate he has played over 250 games for the club. He gave us an interesting insight to the ups and downs as a rugby player and the way in which the club achieved such phenomenal success, as well as how they came through very adverse times.

In the afternoon we were joined by our fantastic industry colleagues in a three hours long workshop which gave us all the chance of meeting with new suppliers, reconnect with people we already knew and to find out about updates from the various venues and destinations and to place new business.

All good things come to an end, and what a fantastic end it was…. The AIEA NY Honours always have a fancy-dress party; each year it takes place in a different city and the dress code follows the initial of the location. So this year it was the letter “W” (for Wishaw) and it was great fun seeing all the creativity that had gone into the out outfits

After the delicious dinner was served the awards ceremony took place and then it was time for dancing and entertainment by our own David Kemsley from Avenue Events and our Vice Chair Chris Walls. Who knew that we had such great talent among us?

Thank you to all that attended and we are all looking forward to a great 2022!!!
